A young single mother was killed Sunday morning when she was trying to retrieve her belongings from her car following a crash.

According to police, 25-year-old Brittany Leith lost control of her car on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 36 in West Babylon. The car flipped, but Leith was able to escape the vehicle, News12 Long Island reported. When she was crossing the highway to return to the car to retrieve her possessions, she was struck and killed, Newsday reported. Two pedestrians were injured when they were hit by an out-of-control car that smashed into the side of a Queens, New York restaurant.

A surveillance camera on the block captured the car, five seconds before it hurtled off the street and slammed into a fried chicken restaurant, striking two men standing outside, New York television station ABC7 reports. 19-Year-Old Dies in Tragic West Islip Collision

A 19-year-old woman from West Islip died in a collision early Tuesday morning, West Islip Patch reports. Julia Schweers was headed north on Higbie Lane when she was struck by a 2005 Mitsubishi headed southbound at about 5:55 a.m. The truck was trying to make a left turn onto Union Boulevard. Schweers was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck, 45-year-old Antonio Reyes of Perth Amboy, N.J., did not suffer any injuries and no charges have been filed so far. Schweers was a 2014 graduate of St. John the Baptist High School. Both vehicles have been impounded by Third Squad detectives, who are still investigating the case. A cruise ship taking European tourists to Ontario, Canada, crashed into a wall while entering a lock on the St. Lawrence Seaway in northern New York, injuring 22, 19 passengers and three crew members.

The 286-foot Saint Laurent was headed from Montreal to Toronto when it hit a wall in the Eisenhower Lock in Massena, near the Canadian border, shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday. The Associated Press (AP) reports that 273 people were on board, including 81 crew members and 192 passengers who are mainly French and Swiss nationals. Continue Reading »

Two people were injured Thursday, one of them critically, when a vehicle apparently rear-ended by another at a Riverhead railroad crossing was propelled onto the tracks, where it was slammed by a Long Island Railroad train.

Child Killed After Car Bursts Through Fast-Food Restaurant

A car crashed into a fast-food restaurant in the Bronx section of New York City late Thursday afternoon, killing a 7-year-old boy and injuring his father and sister. The driver fled but was quickly caught.

Around 5:30 p.m., a Mercedes-Benz SUV reversed into the front window of Kennedy’s Chicken and Sandwiches in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx, pinning 7-year-old Ethan Villavicencio against the wall. The boy was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The boy’s 34-year-old father and 5-year-old sister were also struck and taken to the hospital, officials told The New York Times (The Times). In the early morning hours on Saturday, an out-of-control car slammed into a Chinese restaurant in Brooklyn, triggering a blaze and a rescue early Saturday.

No one was seriously hurt, officials said. “As soon as the car hit the building, the car went in flames,” said Steve Figueroa, 25. Figueroa was parking his car down the street when he saw flames overtake the New Hardee Chinese Restaurant at the corner of DeKalb and Throop Aves. in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 3:45 a.m., the New York Daily News reports. NY State Police are Investigating a Fatal Wrong-Way Crash

The NY State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on May 13 in the town of Oyster Bay, New York.

At approximately 1:34 p.m., a Honda traveling southbound on the Bethpage State Parkway crossed in the northbound lane and was struck by a Dodge. The wreck occurred just north of the Southern State Parkway. The driver of the Honda, 36-year-old Kelly Georgens, of Seaford, New York, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge, 42-year-old Thomas Scaccia, of Lindenhurst, New York, and an 11-year-old passenger were taken to Nassau University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to LongIsland.com.
